the great divide

Summary:
This picture book uses a number of different animals to introduce a child to division. In the “For Creative Minds” section of the book you’ll find material on collective nouns, where the various animals live, and some exercises using division.
Educational Themes:
Although math is the concept most highlighted in the book itself, there are other ways to use the book. It could be a launching pad for discussions of specific animals and their habitats, for example. The Creative Minds section has ideas on using it for language arts, too
Reading Level:
2.2
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
8 and Up
Recommended Age To Read Together:
6 to 10
Age of child:
Read with a 6-year-old boy
Purchase Recommendation:
Buy. Division isn't something that kids "get" right away. It will be handy for them to have this book around if they need a refresher.
Little Kid Reaction
My friend’s son found the book interesting and it did assist him in grasping the concept of division. He liked the animal illustrations.
Big Kid Reaction
The book is well designed with nice art. The four pages of activities at the end are excellent.
Pros:

Great art and animal illustrations add to making this a non-threatening way of introducing a child to division.

Cons:

None.
