the interns: truth or fashion

Summary:

The Fashionista blog said what everyone knew: Ava was the Cinderella of the Couture Cutting Edge gala. The event gave Ava the confidence to walk away from her past...and her secrets. Callie wasn't so lucky, Aynsley knew about the lies and Callie was paying a price: personally and professionally. When Isabella divided the interns into teams to create the new fall cover (thanks to a spy), Aynsley left everything to her partner, Callie, while she went shopping. It also gave Nadine (paired with Ava) the perfect opportunity to redeem herself. So is there any truth in the fashion world?

Educational Themes:
This is mostly recreational reading for teens. Those not familiar with how a magazine is put together, how competitive the business is, and what it takes to do a modeling shoot will find it informative, too.
Reading Level:
7.1
Recommended Age To Read By Yourself:
13 and Up
Recommended Age To Read Together:
12 and Up
Purchase Recommendation:
Borrow. This is a great book to read, but it's not likely to be one you'll come back to very often.
Young Reader Reaction:

Review pending.

Parent Reaction:

The first book in the series, Fashionistas left just enough of a cliff hanger to make this one a quick pick-up. For most of the first half, though, the book was more of I expected the first book to be: pure chick lit. By midway through, though, the story moved away from sex and parties back to the lives of the four main characters and some great background on the industry. Even if you didn't read the first title, you can enjoy this one.

Pros:

Teens will connect with the interns. There are plenty of life-choice parallels they can relate to even if they aren't interns for a magazine.

Cons:

The author has created some strong, talented, believe-in-yourself potential. When she gets sidetracked with the stereotypical stuff, it takes away from the story.
