Big Kid Reaction
This is a special story. The Mulberry Bird, more than any other book, has come closest to our adoption journey. The focus on the birth mother's struggle is very important - particularly to our preteen who is asking questions about being "given away." This is a book to buy when your child is an infant to save for the days when they come to you curious about their biological family.
Pros:

This beautiful story can help all families - not just adoptive ones - appreciate the love that goes into becoming a family.

Cons:

We have seen The Mulberry Bird recommended for children as young as 5. The story requires a level of empathy that they may not have, and because of that, reading it with very young children could leave them confused or angry.
