This fantasy fiction novel is about a band of unlikely heroes who come together to protect their home realm of Allward. With betrayals of queens to mighty heroes of Old Cor blood, Corayne an-Amarat (17), a pirate’s daughter, and her allies must work together to break the Spindles, sources of great magic that open into other realms. These Spindles work as two-way portals and powerful people are using them to bring over armies that have never been seen before. Corayne and her crew must stop this onslaught of destruction in order to ensure Allward remains intact!

Personally, I loved the book! It has five alternating perspectives that allowed the reader to understand the characters’ psyche and perspectives, as they are each from different backgrounds, including some we see in modern-day times. Readers see that people of different colors and physiques can come – and should – come together to achieve greater things for all mankind.
Buy this book! The book itself is gorgeous and I personally believe that keeping the books you read allows you to keep the memories that go along with them. Sometimes, you might even wish to write your own thoughts in the margins and look back at them and wonder how much your thoughts have changed.
Younger readers may not understand some of the broader themes.
Lots of action and plenty of plot twists will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Readers will also appreciate the "insider knowledge" from each of the five main characters.
There may be some themes that younger children may not be able to understand. There are action scenes and evidence of trauma that younger readers may want to avoid.
This is the first book in a fantasy trilogy.
The main theme would be that working together and depending on one another is the best option when trying to achieve joint goals. People are not one thing and there are billions of layers behind every decision that should play into any judgement made on people.
