What do twisters, dust devils, cyclones, and tornadoes have in common? That is a trick question! They are all the same thing! Everything you want to know about this weather phenomenon is described and/or photo illustrated in this book. Readers learn what a tornado looks like, how it behaves, and what it can do. All of the steps on how tornadoes form are detailed, too.
In addition to scientific data, the book talks about tornado trends, scientific processes (how they are ranked and classified, etc.), and their real-life effects. The last part of the book is also extremely helpful: tips on how to detect any weather that can create a tornado; what to do in the event of a tornado; and how weather scientists predict and track tornadoes.
BTSYA / Teen Reader (15):
All in all, this is an amazing book. Every page has an informative diagram or picture related to the text and many pages have extremely cool pictures of tornadoes. I recommend it to anyone interested in science or just curious about the topic. The vocabulary is generally easy to understand, so the book is appropriate for anyone in elementary school or middle school. It is information-heavy, so if you aren't interested in tornadoes or the weather you could be bored easily.
Amazing photography will grab readers (of all ages!) and have them poring over the pages in this book. They will find the scientific information intriguing and read more than they might have intended.
This is a photo-illustrated book about a weather phenomenon that goes by several names: twister, dust devil, cyclone, and tornado.
This book is a series of self-contained science lessons. From meteorology and climatology to scientific methods and technology. There is A TON of things you can do with this book.
