Careful! Milk might just come out your nose.

Summary:

Poff! She’s gone. Just like that Scott and Polly’s mom has disappeared into the next dimension. She’ll only be gone for a year. Still, it’s pretty frightening … but its not the worst news. Goodco agents have kidnapped the real Queen of England! With two agents masquerading as the Queen, they’ve been able to fool most of the public. Just not John, Scott, Polly and their friends. The group is determined to stop Goodco and save the queen. Its a race against time and the chances of getting back through the portal are slim.

Reader Enjoyment Factors:

Teens will love the humor and fast-paced events in the story.

Content Awareness Factors:

None, really; except that reading Book 1 would make this one more fun.

Young Reader Reaction

Because I haven't read Cold Cereal, Unlucky Charms was a little difficult to follow. I found it challenging to understand all of the characters and figure out what was going on. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. I liked how the author used a common company in our society today and created an entire storyline around it. Overall, I thought that Unlucky Charms was a good read but the experience would have been greatly improved had I read Cold Cereal first. I would recommend this book to kids ages 9-11 due to its mild humor and slightly confusing storyline. This is a book that I would check out from the library rather then purchase as a gift. I enjoyed it, but it was a little difficult to follow.

Parent Reaction

The story is action packed. Sometimes, you can pick up a book at book two and still enjoy it. While I enjoyed reading Unlucky Charms, it was clear that this would have been more understandable and enjoyable if I had read Cold Cereal first.
