where the mountain meets the moon

Summary:

Every day, Minli worked in the fields alongside her parents. In the shadow of Fruitless Mountain, work was hard and riches few. Each evening, Minli begged her father to tell her about the Jade Dragon. Her mother didn't like the stories, as they only added to the meagerness of their lives. But Minli believed in Jade Dragon and journeyed to find the Old Man of the Moon whom Ba told her could change their fortune.

This is enjoyable just as a fun book to read. The family theme is both universal and unique to Chinese culture. The same can also be said for some of the fairy tales woven into the story.
