At Beezley's Animal Shelter, Mrs. Beezley always says "There's a pot for every lid and a lid for every pot." But Broccoli, a sweet and boisterous dog who has lived there his whole life, hasn't found his lid yet. He can't understand why. He always barks his loudest barks and can even throw his water bowl into the air! Then Oscar moves in across the street and comes in to find a friend. Will Broccoli find his lid?
Young Readers (4, 6):
They really enjoyed this book. They loved Broccoli and all his antics. Sometimes I picked out the book, sometimes they did. We read this several times.
I also enjoyed this book. It has a sweet and funny story as well as fantastic illustrations. I wasn't surprised my kids enjoyed it. With an animal protagonist and a funny storyline, it is right up their alley.
A funny story, animals doing silly things, and great illustrations are sure to have your kids asking to read this one again. And again.
This picture book is a story about being wanted and being yourself.
Kids are likely to focus on the story of a boy and a dog, but the heart of the book is the idea of being yourself and friendship. You *might* be able to stretch it to talk about responsibility. How did Broccoli end up at the shelter in the first place?
