Both the mother’s and children’s perspective are well represented in the story, making the book great for all ages. I even cried at the beauty and simplicity of the children’s idea. I found the book delightful because, for me, it really isn't about death. It is about the celebration of a human being and his relationships, as well as about the things that are possible with such a strong connection. That's what makes it compelling. It doesn't blow sunshine into a vacuous hole. It reminds us of the things we wish for, and the things worth remembering.
This is a picture book to help children understand death.
This book serves as a great reminder of how the simple things are often the most important.
