Yankee Doodle
This is the story of the American Revolution using mice, rabbits, and other woodland creatures as Minutemen, Redcoats, and Hessians.
First Graders won't get anything out of the history, but may find the mice cute. Good artwork and cute fuzzy mice make the Revolution a lot less bloody--the fight scenes are done with corks from popguns, for instance.
None, really. This is a very good primer to the Revolution for elementary age kids.
He enjoys the story, asks questions about events it describes, and relates the book to what has been learned about George Washington in school.
The book does a VERY good job of giving the basic story in the classic rhyme/tune of Yankee Doodle, with paragraphs around the page that elaborate on what happened.
It is a lyrical story, with poems set to that famous tune.
This is an easy-to-absorb presentation of US history and the American Revolution
