Wednesday Blurb: Heat !! and Community Challenges

Well, technically I don’t have heat in my office yet, but the baseboard heaters are ordered. My office is the room over the garage and while it is a lovely little hideaway, despite the little electric fireplace it gets a wee bit chilly on the toes!

Enough about me … let’s get to the hot news.

Children's and Young Adult Bloggers Literary AwardsIt’s been all over the blogosphere, Twitter, and Facebook, but it is worth mentioning again: The Cybils Shortlists are out.  I am really excited about the finalists in the Easy Readers & Early Chapter Books category. It was also nice to see that Dragonbreath: Attack of the Ninja Frogs, originally slated for the Easy Reader panel, got a second chance in the Middle Grade Science Fiction & Fantasy category.

There's a Book book challengeIs this logo not the most adorable challenge button e-v-a-h? Actually there are TWO buttons to use so go over to There’s a Book and check it out. Danielle has just launched the Read To Me – A Picture Book Challenge. “The objective of the Read to Me Picture Book Challenge is to read with the kiddos in your life and/or enjoy picture books in general. This is a challenge I can do without breaking a resolution … and I’ll bet you can, too. It also will give you a month-to-month list of recommended books to read aloud. Yeah Danielle!

Speaking of challenges …. tomorrow is the opening day of the third Comment Challenge, sponsored by Lee Wind and Pam Coughlan (MotherReader). This is the second year they’ve launched the challenge in January. It is the perfect intersection of community, personal resolutions, blogging, and de-lurking. It is easy to join and you can set your own goals. It’s the conversation that matters! Here is Mother Reader’s description of Comment Challenge 2011, complete with answers to your FAQs.

I hope to see you back here tomorrow! And if you have heat over at your place, I’ll definitely stop by to chat!

  1. Thank you so much Terry! I’m so excited you jumped on board with the reading challenge! It should be a lot of fun and I’m really looking forward to challenging myself by reading more and more with the kiddos.

Also, thanks for the heads up on the comment challenge! I participated last year and completely spaced it. I need to go check it out again because it was really fun last year!

  3. I’ve signed up for both those challenges — and I’m trying to restrain myself from just sitting down and reading a stack of picture books all at once! (Although, she says to herself, what would be the harm in that, really? I wouldn’t get any writing done, but… … …)

Oh — and I have heat at my place, although my chilled fingers and toes wonder about the veracity of that statement.

Glad to find your blog! I’m going enjoy looking about and seeing all the richness that’s here!

  4. I’ve starting working my way through the Cybil nominees, but I want to thank you for pointing out the Read-to-me challenge. It looks enticing, and is a good excuse to keep reading picture books.
